Artbag with Sling Part 3 of 3

We have been working on the construction of the artbag with the sling for the past two blogs and have prepared all of the pieces. All that remains for us to do is to bring these separate pieces together today.

The Lining Bag
Lay the lining panels (with the pockets) on top of each other with the right sides facing. Pin in place.

Sew all along the sides and bottom of the bag, leaving only the top open.

The Handles
Slide the handle flaps through the handles and pin the top of the bag, centering it in the middle.

Give the handles a stay stitch to attach it to the bag. This step is optional, but it will be easier to work with the different layers if you do this.

The Zipper
Line the fabric flap of the zipper up with the top of the bag, centering it. (The handle will be in the middle of all this). Pin in place. Sew with a seam allowance of 1,5 cm. Leave 1,5 cm open at both ends. Do the same with the other side of the zipper as well.

The Fabric Bag
Lay the panels of the fabric bag on top of each other, right sides facing. Pin.

Sew the sides and bottom of the bag, leaving only the top open.

Cut spaces into the rounded corners of the bag so the bag will turn inside out neatly.

Closing the sides
You will need two half-rings to attach the sling.

Slide the two tubes you've made for this purpose through the rings.

It is easier to sew the pieces closed to prevent the rings sliding out, so I do this quickly. This step is once again optional.

Fold the lining panels of the zipper out of the way and pin them there.

Line the centre of the zipper up with the centre of the bag. Slide the flap with the half-rings in between these panels. Pin in place.

Pin the sides in. I made a small pleat on both sides of the zipper to accommodate the extra length I gained from the longer centre panel.

Sew all the way across

Repeat the same steps on the other side of the bag.

Inserting the Lining Bag
Turn the bag right side out.

Insert the lining inside the bag and pin in place.

Turn the bag and the lining inside out now.

Tuck the lining and the seams of the bag neatly in. Pin in place, all the way around the top of the bag.

Sew by hand.

Attach the Sling
Turn your bag right side out and clip your sling on.
