Teabag decoupage

Today's blog is a fun mix of art with crafts. I use some used teabags that have been emptied and dried to decoupage onto a canvas as a background for my coffee and tea themed painting, which follows in acrylic and ink. I show you step by step how to make this delightful painting yourself.

I start on an 8" x 8" (20 x 20 cm) stretched canvas that has already been primed with gesso.

I slide the reinforcements into the corners at the back of the canvas.

I always keep some dried teabags ready.

I use Dala Acrylic Gel Medium to decoupage the teabags onto the canvas. Lather the gel medium onto the space where the first teabag will go.

Lay the teabag in place and paint a layer of the Dala Acrylic Gel Medium over the teabag. Fold the teabag over the sides and decoupage the sides of the canvas as well.

Tuck the corner in neatly and decoupage it flat.

Line up the second teabag and follow the same steps.

Repeat these steps until the whole canvas is covered in teabags. Now put the canvas aside to dry thoroughly.

Draw the picture onto the canvas with a marker.

Paint the red bright red.

Use a darker red on the shadowed areas of the dress.

Black is used on the hat and the shoes.

The tablecloth is painted Buff Titanium with the creases and folds painted Raw Sienna.

The chair is painted in Burnt Sienna.

Two shades of flesh coloured paint is used on the flesh parts of the figure.

The mug is painted bright yellow with white reflections.

A couple of areas are redefined with the marker.
