Art Journal: An Elephant of Stature

Our own self-image has the ability to empower, or to cripple us in life. I contemplate the way we think about ourselves in today's art journal blog, when I compare our thoughts to elephants. These elephants can either be an opposing force, or it can be the force that drives us.

I start today's blog with a white pencil on black paper.

I draw the outline of an elephant across one page, running off on both sides of the page.

I use the same pencil to do the journaling on the opposite page:
"You have a choice in life: you can either be threatened by an approaching elephant, or you can think of yourself as being that elephant. We can either be limited or strengthened by our own self-image. Whatever you do, do not allow your own thoughts to into the elephants trampling your own maggot self."

The elements are now in place for me to add colour to the pages.

I add vibrant colour in loose impressionist style with soft pastels.

I spray a fixative over the pages to prevent it from smudging.

The finalized layout.
