Jewelry Making: Make A Charm Bracelet & Matching Earrings

Charms have fascinated old and young alike for many decades. I show you how to make a very quick and cheap version of this ever popular piece of jewelry in today's blog. I also walk you through the steps of making a couple of matching earrings. Mine is to be included in a gift for a little girl turning 5, but you can adjust your own version for any age, by simply swapping out the 'charms' to be more age appropriate.

I start with the earrings and slide one jump ring onto each of the hooked earrings.

I then find a selection of charms to attach to the earrings. Bear weight in mind when making this selection as you do not want to end up with extremely heavy earrings.

All of the elements are slipped onto jump rings. The final pair is slipped onto the jump rings that are already attached to the earring hooks.

Connect the remaining charms to earrings by sliding the jump rings onto the main jump ring. Put the earrings aside to make the bracelet.

Select a chain with rather big links. Choose the charms you want to attach to the bracelet.

Measure the length of the bracelet and use your pliers to cut the chain. You can use a side-cutter to cut the chain, or you can bend one of the links open between two pliers.

Attach a jump ring and a lobster claw clasp to one end of the chain. The clasp can fasten on one of the links of the chain, or you can attach a jump ring to the other end of the chain as a hook for the clasp. This is a matter of personal choice.

Slide jump rings into each of the charms and slide the jump rings onto the chain, spacing the charms out a little.
