Sew a Long-Sleeved Fitted Blouse

So, in the last blog, I had made myself a short-sleeved top in the middle of Winter. Well, then perhaps I should show you how to make a long-sleeved shirt as well. This time the pattern is somewhat more of a challenge, but follow with me and it should be easy enough. If you choose a nice sturdy fabric to work with, this top can even double as a jacket as well.

I use one of Simplicity's patterns to cut this blouse from.

Lay the blouse out according to the instructions and cut.

Reinforce the facings with stiffening/vilene. Pin the back facing to the front facings at the shoulders.

Sew the facings at the shoulders.

Mark the darts.

Pin the darts.

Sew the darts.

Pin the front and back panels of the blouse at the shoulders.

Sew the shoulder seams.

Staystitch the back neck so that it won't stretch on the curve.

Pin the facings to the front and back panels at the back neck and down the centre front.

Sew all along the pinned edges.

Notch the edges on the curves.

Understitch the back facing to prevent it from crawling out when wearing the blouse.

Pin the sleeve into the armhole.

Sew the sleeve into the armhole.

Pin the underarm of the sleeve and the side seam of the blouse, back and front together.

Sew along the pinned edges.

Fold in the hem of the jacket and pin it in place. Sew the hem.

Roll the hems of the sleeves and pin in place.

Sew the sleeve hems.

Measure the buttonholes.

Sew the buttonholes.

Open the buttonholes with a quick-unpick tool.

Sew the buttons on.
