Make Your Own Perfume & Aftershave

Along with the stuff to make make-up, that I'd been given by a friend, there were also some oils and perfume bases included to make your own perfume with. This was not something that I had ever thought I'd do, but if one gets given this kind of thing for free, then it makes perfect sense that one should try it. Internet searches did not reveal much as far as this was concerned, although there are some very nice articles on making your own essential oils to use as a base for making your own perfume. Anyway, my attempts and experiments today felt very much like taking a shot in the dark. Still, it seemed to have turned out alright.

This is the stuff I had been given by my friend.

I poured some of the perfume base into a small dish.

Then I added some essential oils for men. I would assume this is to serve as an aftershave.

I mixed the ingredients.

It is a known fact that the longer lasting perfumes have an oil based. I decided to add some extra virgin olive oil to the mix.

It did not seem to mix well.

Still, I decided to keep these first samples and proceeded to bottle it.

Next I started with some olive oil.

Then I decided to add the perfume directly to the oil.

I mixed everything. It seemed to leave better results.

I then decided to swap the olive oil for some technical oil. I mixed this with the perfume base, as the technical oil is supposed to be soluble.

It was an even worse mix than the olive oil. Technical oil will dissolve in hot water.

I again added the perfume directly to the technical oil. This time I used a proper women's fragrance.

I mixed everything together and was quite satisfied.

By the time I was done I had lots of tiny experimental fragrances to share with my family members to get their feedback over time.
