Sewing a Black & White Top

Today we are making a quick-sew pattern. The top we are making can be sewn in an hour or two and requires very little skill. It is not meant to the centerpiece of an outfit, but rather to compliment the other pieces in the outfit. I show you step by step how to go about sewing an uncomplicated top like this for yourself in today's blog.

The fabric I selected was this black and white print and I opted to make the top from an old pattern I have in my pattern collection. The pattern is Butterick 5270.

Pin and sew the shoulder seams together.

Reinforce the facings with vilene.

Pin and sew the facings at the shoulder seams.

Pin the facings to the neckline and sew.

Notch the neckline.

Fold over and iron flat. I sewed my neckline with a wide border after folding it back, but this is an optional step.

Pin the sleeve into the arm and sew.

Pin the underarm of the sleeve and the side seams of the top. Sew.

Hem the top and the sleeves.

A very simple project indeed!
