Sew a Wide Skirt with Side Pockets

I am busy making my second set of mix and match clothes from my fabric stash. Today I opted to make a wide skirt with some convenient side pockets for the phone, keys and tissues I always seem to be carrying on my person. I show you step by step how to do this yourself in today's blog.

I use a Butterick pattern to cut today's skirt from.

Reinforce the waistband with stiffening/vilene. Fold over and pin the sides.

Sew and notch the sides.

Pin and sew the centre back of the skirt.

Pin the zipper to the centre back seam.

Sew the zipper onto the seam.

Open the seam over the zipper.

Pin the pockets to the side seams.

Sew the pockets onto the side seams.

Lay the front and back on top of each other and pin the pockets, and all the way down the sides of the skirt. Sew around the pockets and all the way down the sides. Iron the seams open.

Mark the buttonhole.

Pin and sew the waistband onto the skirt.

Sew the buttonhole.

Sew the button onto the skirt.

Roll the hem of the skirt and pin.

Sew the hem of the skirt.
