School Holiday Project 31: Making A Fly-Catching Frog

The two toddlers unexpectedly came to stay for the afternoon. This meant that I had to come up with something for them to do in a very short time. I always keep a couple of empty toilet rolls ready and a quick look at ideas on Pinterest, gave me this cute solution. We made fly-catching frogs!

Cut an empty toilet roll tube in half.

Draw an arm and a leg for the frog on a piece of cardboard. I used an empty cereal box. Cut these limbs out.

Turn the arm and leg over and trace with a pencil. Cut these limbs out as well.

Draw the outline of a fly, or another flying bug. Cut it out.

Paint the toilet roll tube green inside and outside. I use Dala Craft Paint in Lime.

The limbs should also be painted green.

Paint your fly the colour of your choice. I used Purple.

Staple the legs onto the frog.

Staple the arms onto the frog.

Staple a piece of string onto the frog, catching it between the top and bottom of the tube.

Staple the fly onto the other end of the string.

Stick some eyes onto the frog (or draw them with fiber tip pens). Now watch the kids having fun trying to catch the fly in the frog's mouth!
